My name is Valentino Arendse. I love this initiative and as part of supporting and giving back I will be running this ultra 50km. Every year I try and see which charity event I can support and when I heard and read of the World Preemie Ultra I knew this was one of the events I want to be a part of. I am an Ultra trail and road runner and through this sport I have been supporting events like these since 2017.

I’m interested in doing running for a good cause. I started running in 2017 after signing myself for 2 surgical operations at Paarl Hospital. After my surgical procedures, I started doing 7 minute recovery runs and kept checking how much this body of mine which was wrecked could do. Next I did park runs, marathons for charity which I finished in 2 hours 54 minutes. I’ve done the Two Oceans Marathon in 4 hours, Comrades Marathon twice in 7 hours 48 minutes wearing Helderberg Harriers colours. I live in Kayamandi informal settlement currently where I do sports activities with kids. I’m one man who appreciates a second chance in life and I wish to help others by participating in charity runs.

Odwa Makwati (35) born and raised in eQonce, Eastern Cape. I stay in Milnerton with my partner. I work as an accountant for a religious PBO. I have been running with The Nine Four, a Cape Town based run crew, since 2017 and in that time I have managed to run an ultra marathon, The Comrades,a handful of marathons and countless half marathons. Being an uncle to happy, healthy nephews and a niece I know how crucial a child’s health is in its development. This is why when I heard that the Preemie ultra is for the benefit of the Tygerberg Children’s hospital it was a no-brainer for me to take part in it.

I am 38yrs old working in Hospitality for 17 years. l love running with my whole heart in a way that I wish to run for living. My best run was the last comrades which I ran with an injury without any training for the whole year but I did 7:55. This motivated me to start training though am still struggling. The reason why am running this marathon, I love giving back to the community. If I have to run to help others I will do it every day.
